Pastor Tom Eggley was born and raised in Illinois. Tom accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 9 during Vacation Bible School at Grapevine Baptist Church in Madisonville, KY. After graduating from high school in Olney, IL., he attended Southern Illinois University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1967. From 1967-1969 he taught and coached at Carbondale Community High School.
At that time, he and his wife Esther moved to Kansas City, MO. to enroll at Midwestern Baptist Seminary. After receiving a Master's Degree in 1972, the family served as minister of music and youth in Belen, New Mexico, before returning to Illinois in 1975.
During the past 30 years, the Eggleys have served in two pastorates: Towerview Baptist Belleville, Illinois and here at FBC Petersburg. Pastor Tom enjoys bicycle riding on his recumbent bike, sports of all kinds, fishing, hunting and his 6 grandchildren.
Pastor Tom is looking forward to greater days of ministry as we labor together for the glory of God!
Pastor's Points...
From the heart of Pastor Tom Eggley
Praise God for refreshing times away from the regular routine of life. I had one of those experiences at a pastors' retreat in the Decatur area this week. Six other men and I met together in 2-hour sessions in which we shared some of the joyful and painful experiences in our lives. Confidentiality prevents me from sharing any specifics, but each one had suffered some very painful wounds.
Some of those hurts were caused by fellow Christians! What a sad commentary! We who are commanded by Jesus to love each other often inflict pain on our brothers and sisters.
The apostle Paul wrote the following to Christians in Ephesus (4:2-3) "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." That statement says it well. My prayer is that the family of believers who gather here at FBC will make every effort to live up to that challenge.
See you Sunday!
Brother Tom
